Bakersfield Airstrip

The grass runway pre-dates everything else at Laundimer House. My father Terence Baker learned to fly light aircraft and by the late 1980s he'd successfully completed a self- build Pulsar XP. He was fortunate enough to have bought 4 fields that eventually became one 40 acre flat arable field. He set aside a grass airstrip through the middle and he named it 'Bakersfield'- not only as a pun on his own surname but also a tongue in cheek nod to the large military airfield in the USA of the same name.

The strip measures 490m x 12m and currently one hangar is available for hangarage, which is 26m x 13m. It has an electric lift action door with a 12m x 2.2m opening. The hangar is alarmed with a steel pedestrian door and padlock.
