About Us
The 63 acre site was farmed by my father Terry and grandfather Herbert for the last 60 years. Originally the area comprised 4 separate fields and was worked by horses and open top tractors.

In the early 1980s my father learnt how to fly light aircraft and set some of the field down as a grass runway and ‘Bakersfield airstrip’ was created. It’s still used by several pilots today and if you’re lucky during fine weather you may glimpse a small plane or microlight popping in for a visit.

My father Terry ploughing the land at Bears Lane giving his little brother Barry a tractor ride.
In the 1990s my father along with my mother Pauline developed the site further building a 2nd barn and the farmhouse itself, which was completed in 1994. The B&B was built by my father in 1995 due to the need to diversify the farm business when the agricultural economy experienced a significant downturn.

The B&B became the pride and joy of my mother and her breakfasts were deemed so delicious that guests would book a year in advance just to secure their place.

Today the farm is operated by my brother Laurie and I returned to work for my father reopening the B&B in 2014. I set about renovating each room bringing them up to date with modern tastes and standards. Following in my father’s footsteps in 2019 I added my own little building project to the site in the shape of a lovingly handcrafted glamping unit called ‘The Little Stable’, which was completed in 2021.

My business aims:
-
To continue to refurbish each room to a 5* standard
-
Restore the garden to its former glory & encourage a range of wildlife
-
Improve facilities throughout while increasing sustainability and eco-credentials
-
Most importantly ensure guests receive great service and have an enjoyable stay
-
Make sure Mrs Baker’s delicious big breakfast remains unchanged!
